Detoxification
Detoxification is the vital process of eliminating toxins from our body. In a healthy person this process happens automatically without complications. Without proper detoxification our bodies quickly become overburdened, system malfunction and organs shut down.
Toxins are all around us: in the air we breathe, the water we drink and wash with, the foods we eat, the products we apply to our body, the substances we touch every day. Some common sources of toxins include: skin care products, clothing dyes, synthetic materials, cleaning supplies, radiation exposure from the sun, pesticides, herbicides, pollutants. You can always strive to lower your toxin exposure, but we cannot avoid them completely.
Some people do not detoxify as well as others due to genetic errors and must be more careful of the toxins they are exposed to. Detoxification naturally slows down as we age, and is responsible for part of the aging process. The more toxins you are exposed to, the harder your body must work, and the faster the detoxification pathways can be disrupted. Medications can also decrease the body's ability to detoxify or compromise liver function.
Common signs of toxicity:
foul breath, excessive body odor, belching and gas
weight gain or inability to lose weight
skin problems, acne, hives, eczema, psoriasis, rashes
allergies, food sensitivities, scent sensitivities, auto immune disorders
diarrhea, IBS, vomiting, nausea
poor sleep, restlessness, insomnia
mood disorders, depression, inattention, poor memory
frequent headaches, dizziness, confusion
weakness, chronic fatigue, lack of mental or physical energy
nutritional imbalances such as anemia
hormonal imbalances, endometriosis, PCOS, infertility, early menopause
Everyone can benefit from increased detoxification. Some forms need supervision and extra support and guidance. The detox plan that is right for you depends on your current lifestyle and health, your typical diet, and your daily toxin exposure. It is very important to ensure that you are eliminating well, drinking enough fluids, and have proper supplemental support before you begin a cleanse or detox. Supplements can help properly bind toxins so they don't recirculate into the blood stream and can be eliminated safely.
The toxins in your body are currently stored safely encapsulated in your fat cells. When you begin a cleanse or detox, those toxins are released into the body, the blood stream and digestive system. If they are not flushed quickly and effectively they can recirculate and make you very ill. This can manifest as headaches, flu, vomiting, skin eruptions, fever and more. Many people report feeling terribly ill after doing a "packaged cleanse." This is also the reason that so many people feel sick shortly after starting a new diet or exercise program. Toxins that were once safely stored in your fat cells are released and your body must combat them all over again. This is why planning and support is crucial to a positive outcome.
A quick detox can make you sick!!! Please don't do a fast or similar cleanse without proper support.
Simple detoxification methods are safe for the majority of people (the elderly, children and pregnant or nursing women should always check with a professional first). Some ideas include: drinking more purified water daily, exercising, drinking lemon water each morning, dry brushing the skin, going for a massage, taking a bath, oil pulling each morning, going for a far infrared sauna, or rebounding. You can look at ways to decrease you toxin exposure too, use gentle cleaners, eliminate artificial scents, add some great air-cleaning houseplants.
Detoxification Help
My goal is to help my clients feel healthier faster with minimal side ill side effects. This is extra important when considering a detox or cleanse. A full health history is important to identify the body's areas of weakness and possible past illness that can be brought up during the healing process. It's also vital to open all the detoxification pathways before starting a cleanse. I mainly work with food, supplements and homeopathic remedies to support the body.
Homeopathic remedies can help:
strengthen organs and systems
open detoxification pathways
heal intestinal wall permeability
support kidneys and fluid balance
improve lymphatic drainage
improve liver function
improve digestion and nutrient absorption
Starting slow is always a good idea. It's best to start with a simple cleanse, making a few changes for a short time, allowing your body some rest and recovery time and then taking another step for a slightly longer period of time. Sometimes we start with just supplements and a few diet changes. Some people work towards a juice fast, a soup diet or a parasite/candida/gut-reset cleanse. I want to work with you where you are now and help you move toward your goals in a safe and healthy manner.
